On March 8th, 2023, we conducted a talk and sharing session with one of our manufacturing clients in conjunction with International Women’s Day 2023. We would say that it was an amazing day for all the women who attended this session. Not only was it a session where everyone opened up about the problems they faced as women in the workplace, but it also helped women understand and support each other.
As women, working in a manufacturing and construction company is undeniably very challenging. Imagine that the company which conducted this special International Women’s Day sharing session noted that women who work in this company make up just 10-20% compared to the men who are the majority in this company.
More than 60 women gathered and shared the problems they faced in the workplace, and there is one thing that we will never forget. They shared that they were being questioned, "Are you sure you have the qualifications to stand here?" in the workplace. It's a sad truth, but that's one of the problems they face as women in the manufacturing sector. People underestimate their qualifications, value, and where they are supposed to stand. It's 2023, and people still have this thought?
“They will never try to understand us,” said one of the female workers sadly as she expressed her feelings when sharing her stories in the workplace where her opinions were ignored just because she’s a woman.
The hard truth about women's empowerment in the corporate sector is that there are many people out there who deny the power and qualifications of women to stand at the same level as men.We believe this story is important so that everyone understands that women are not just women; they are mothers, workers, wives, gardeners, and more.
A big applause to the Managing Director of this company, who is also a woman and cares about the female employees. At the end of the session, she made a big decision to conduct this special IWD 2023 sharing session with the objective of not only empowering women but also bringing women's equality to the workplace.
“Listen to your problems, and we will make sure to find solutions” - MD.
The session started beautifully, with all women receiving flowers as a symbol that shows that women are as beautiful as flowers. Hopefully this season can make all the female employees feel appreciated and valued in this company.
As a corporate wellness provider, it is our job to run on-site health screenings and corporate wellness programs for all corporate companies in Malaysia. It is a good experience to learn about the company's problems related to employees' health and to help companies solve these problems. More or less, we help companies prevent more serious diseases because prevention is better than cure, right?
One of our team members came across a driving academy company led by an amazing woman who spends her company's budget to provide on-site health screenings for the 46 staff. A big shoutout to her because she also prepares food for the staff and runs health talks or webinars every month to ensure that her staffs are always aware of the importance of taking care of their health.
During the health screening, there was a funny moment when one of her senior employees, a 60-year-old, claimed that he was scared of needles and had never done a health check before. "I'm scared to death and will never do a blood test," shouted the senior employee, showing his frightened face.
Some of the employees teased him by saying that he was strong enough and did not need a health check because he had 15 children and that’s why he is “strong”. He proudly admitted that he was strong in that way. It was such a great moment that during the health screening, everyone was happily talking and engaging with each other by sharing their own stories.
A big applause to the wonderful leader of this driving academy company. She takes care of all the staff as if they were her own family members, always providing extra love by meeting their basic needs such as food and comfortable working space. Now, she is even providing continuous health events and medical checkups for her employees. We can conclude that she is one of the great leaders we have met in 2022.
P/S.: The 60-year-old senior has refused to do a blood test so far, even though it was a free medical checkup provided by the company. We are still waiting for him to visit our laboratory and have his blood test done. Hopefully, he will gather his courage and do the blood test soon.
